The simple present tense is used to talk about:
– Regular actions or habits
– General truths and facts
– Feelings and states that don’t change often
– Scheduled future events
Forming Negative Sentences
To make a negative sentence in the simple present tense:
- Use ‘do not’ (don’t) for I/you/we/they
- Use ‘does not’ (doesn’t) for he/she/it
- The main verb always stays in its base form
Examples:
– I play tennis → I do not play tennis
– She sings well → She does not sing well
– They live here → They do not live here
Important Rules to Remember
- After ‘does not/do not’, always use the base form of the verb:
– CORRECT: He does not play
– INCORRECT: He does not plays
- With the verb ‘be’ (am/is/are), just add ‘not’:
– I am not happy
– She is not ready
– They are not here
- For negative sentences with multiple verbs:
– I do not sing and dance
– She does not read or write well
