Today we’re going to learn about numbers and how they work together like friends in a line. Just like you line up with your classmates, numbers also follow a special order!
Before Numbers
When we talk about what number comes “before,” we’re looking for the number that’s one step smaller.
Think about it like this:
* The number before 5 is 4
* The number before 3 is 2
* The number before 10 is 9
Let’s practice!
What comes before…
– 7? (It’s 6!)
– 4? (It’s 3!)
– 8? (It’s 7!)
After Numbers
When we look for what comes “after” a number, we’re finding the number that’s one step bigger.
Here are some examples:
* The number after 2 is 3
* The number after 6 is 7
* The number after 9 is 10
Try these!
What comes after…
– 5? (It’s 6!)
– 1? (It’s 2!)
– 8? (It’s 9!)
In-Between Numbers
Sometimes we need to find what number fits in the middle of two numbers. This is called the “in-between” number.
Look at these examples:
* What number is between 2 and 4? (It’s 3!)
* What number is between 6 and 8? (It’s 7!)
* What number is between 4 and 6? (It’s 5!)
