The Important World of Capital Letters
What are Capital Letters?
Capital letters are like special clothes we put on certain letters to show they are important! They are bigger versions of regular letters and help us show respect to special words in our writing.
When do we use capital letters?
Beginning of Sentences
Every sentence starts with a capital letter. It’s like saying “Hello!” to your reader.
Example: The sun is shining today. Each day brings new adventures.
Names of People and Pets
People and pets are special, so their names always start with capital letters.
Example: My best friend Sarah plays with her dog Max every afternoon.
Names of Places
Cities, countries, states, and special places get capital letters to show they’re important locations.
Example: We flew from New York to London, and then visited Paris.
Days of the Week and Months
Each day and month is special, so they get capital letters too!
Example: On Monday in June, we’re having a picnic.
Holidays
Holidays are celebration times, so they deserve capital letters.
Example: We celebrate Christmas in December and Easter in spring.
The Word “I”
The word “I” is always capital when it stands alone. It’s the only word that’s always capitalized no matter where it appears in a sentence!
Example: When I play with my friends, we have lots of fun.
Titles of Books, Movies, and Stories
The important words in titles get capital letters.
Example: My favorite book is “The Cat in the Hat”
