Imagine you want to share exciting news with your favorite cousin who lives in another city. Would you send them a formal business letter? Of course not! This is where informal letters come in – they’re friendly, personal messages we write to people we know well, like family and friends.

What is an Informal Letter?

An informal letter is a personal message written to someone we’re close to, using casual and friendly language. It’s like having a conversation on paper with someone you know well. We use informal letters to share news, express feelings, invite people, or simply stay in touch with loved ones.

24, Green Park

New Delhi – 110016

15th February 2025

Dear Grandma,

How are you? I hope this letter finds you in the best of health. I miss you so much and think about the delicious cookies you make every day.

I wanted to share some exciting news with you. I won first prize in the school painting competition last week! The theme was “Save Environment,” and I painted a beautiful scene showing children planting trees. My art teacher was very impressed and displayed my painting in the school corridor.

School is going well, and I’m enjoying my new hobby – learning to play the flute. Mom says I’m getting better every day, though Dad still covers his ears sometimes when I practice!

When are you coming to visit us? We all miss you, especially on Sunday mornings when Mom makes pancakes – they’re never as good as yours (don’t tell her I said that!).

Yours lovingly,

Aarav

Dear Riya,

I hope you’re doing well! I can’t believe it’s been a month since you moved to Chennai. Our classroom feels different without you sitting next to me.

You won’t believe what happened yesterday! Remember that stray dog we used to feed outside our school? Well, our science teacher, Mrs. Sharma, adopted him! He now comes to school with her every day, and during breaks, we all get to play with him. He looks so happy and healthy now.

How is your new school? Have you made new friends? I bet you’re already the captain of the basketball team there – you were always the best player in our school!

Please write back soon and tell me all about your new life in Chennai. Maybe I can visit you during the summer holidays?

Your loving friend,

Zara
